Friday 8 Nov

  • 1pm-on Registrations open.

  • 2pm Art Deco Quarter Guided Walk. Departs the Art Deco Trust, 7 Tennyson St, Napier. FREE

  • 4:30pm Mihi Whakatau. Welcome at the Napier War Memorial Centre.

  • 5-6:30pm Drinks, Meet & Mingle. 

  • 7pm Closing.

Saturday 9 Nov

  • 8am-on Registrations open.

  • 9am Keynote Speech.

  • 9:30-10:30am Panel Discussion: Local Heritage Matters!

    • Jenny Too (or stand-in) : The wreck of the Ventor

    • David Clendon: Clendon Papers and the Memory of the World

    • Rena Kohere: Iwi and mapping cultural landscapes

    • Felicity Wong: Protecting Wellington’s heritage. 

  • 10:30-11am Morning tea.

  • 11am – 12pm Heritage Bites. Six presentations from groups giving their own examples of local heritage work.

  • 12pm - 12:30pm Speakers: Protection, Planning & Scheduling, by John O’Shaughnessy. Working to protect Heritage, by Elizabeth Pishief.

  • 12:30pm – 1pm Presentation. Where in the world is Heretaunga? by Rose Mohi.

  • 1pm – 2pm Lunch.

  • 2pm - 3pm Panel Discussion. Mitigating risks: Seismic, Fire, Floods by Andrew Marriott, Stacy Vallis, and Kate Hooper.

  • 3pm - 3:45pm Presentation. Researching the places your family lived, worked, & played by Katrina Barrett (Stoneycroft), and Marilyn Wightman (Feilding & Districts Community Archive).

  • 3:45 - 4:30pm Heritage Bites.

  • 6:30pm Informal Dinner and Quiz.

Sunday 10 Nov

  • 9am - 9:30am HPA AGM.

  • 9:30am - 10am Speaker Richard Shaw.

  • 10am - 10:30am Tea & Coffee.

  • 10:30am Speaker. Surprise guest speaker.

  • 12pm - 5pm Activities. A variety to select from, including guided walks, museums, and historic house tours.

Book before 31 August, pay only $200 and receive:

Admission to the Conference with access to the full Programme.

  • Saturday Lunch and Dinner.

  • Unlimited Tea and Coffee throughout the event. Additionally, if you attended the 2024 Hawke's Bay Heritage Awards on Thursday evening, why not kick off Friday morning with a visit to MTG or the Faraday Centre or Aquarium before joining an Art Deco Walk.

Sunday activities:

Sunday offers a chance to explore Hawkes Bay heritage with various walks, talks, and tours, including guided walks, museum visits, historic house tours, and a Central Hawkes Bay bus tour. All activities are available at discounted rates for conference attendees. Bookings open on Friday of the conference weekend.
